curatorial collaborations |
|
Almir Mavignier was artist, initiator, mediator and curator. Throughout his life, he created and supported platforms such as
New Tendencies, zagreb and studio f, ulm, as well as projects with institutions in Hamburg and elsewhere, providing fellow artists—and later generations of students—with opportunities to present their work. Since his passing, I have been deeply grateful to the curators who have worked closely with me to present Mavignier’s œuvre in new exhibitions, historical contexts and contemporary dialogues. This section is dedicated to their contribution. It introduces curators with whom I have collaborated in recent years and who are still active and who all have an expertise on the work of my father. I am also presenting selected examples of their texts, essays or reflections on his work work. |

Prof Luiz Guilherme Vergara, Niteroi
Close friend. As the director of the Museo de Arte Contemporanea, Niteroi he contact Almir Mavignier in 2005/7 and travelled to Hamburg, creating now most valuable interviews in the process. He invited Mavignier for the 2007 exhibition 'Poetas da Cor'. His close friendship and deep knowledge of my father's work, with myself and art history in Brasil make him an amazing curatorial collaborator.
Prof Luiz Armando Bagolin, São Paulo
Luiz Armando Bagolin has never met Almir Mavignier but I have experienced his curation and collaboration with Flavio Cohn and myself and Luiz Guilherme Vergara has produced the best Mavignier exhibition in decades. It was a distinctively positive experience to collaborate with Bagolin on the São Paulo Exhibition at Dan Galeria Contemporary.
Flavio Cohn, Dan Galeria Contemporary, São Paulo
Flavio Cohn, Peter Cohn and Ulisses Cohn are gallerists and not curators but their friendship and experiences with Almir are deep and far reaching and their posture and way of working with my fathers work has been full of respect and expertise. They have my complete trust and recommendation for all Mavignier related topics and questions of representation.

Dr Miriam Schoofs, freie Kuratorin, Berlin
Miriam Schoofs was a close friend of Almir and Sigrid Mavignier and spent regularly time with my father getting to know about his art, concepts and life from first hand. She has also initiated a 100 years mavignier exhibition at the Barlach Haus Hamburg. Miriam consults me with all aspects of the mavignier collection and eventually is going to work on the Werkverzeichnis for Almir Mavignier. The collaboration with Miriam has been outstanding.
